Volunteer Alert - Concerns About Volunteer Organization IICD
Posted By Kate On 3rd May 2007 @ 13:56 In General Tips And Advice, Organizations, News | No Comments
Via the How To Live Your Dreams Of Volunteering Overseas site, I recently came across information and links in connection to a warning about the volunteer organization International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD):
“… it is our conclusion that IICD is a front group for a cultlike organization, coordinated by Tvind [a larger company based in Denmark]. Since publication, the leader of Tvind, Amdi Petersen, has been arrested at Los Angeles. He is currently awaiting extradition to Denmark on charges of tax fraud and embezzlement.”
The link provided from that site is here:
https://www.tvindalert.com, and you can find the words of How To Live Your Dreams Of Volunteering Overseas author Zahara Heckscher here.
I should point out that I read about IICD on the web and in fact wrote a few sentences about it and linked to its site in this Volunteer Logue post; interestingly, the link no longer works, from my page nor from the site I found it on. Aside from the time I spent looking around the site that is no longer around, I know little more about the organization, so I can’t add much more information or context to what I’ve seen on other sites.
This would be another good time to mention that while I hope the Volunteer Logue can serve as a good resource and starting point for others, readers most definitely need to investigate opportunities themselves, as I point out in What’s Behind a Profile.
