GlobalAware, Independent Media Organization For Social Justice
By Kate | Permalink | No Comments | May 19th, 2007 | TrackbackIf you’re looking to get involved in social research and writing volunteering from home, GlobalAware might have an opportunity for you.
GlobalAware is an independent media organization, which describes itself as “a collective of journalists, photographers, writers, graphic designers, web professionals and concerned individuals working towards environmental justice and social change.” It has offices in Canada, Germany, and the UK, but obviously the web – and the nature of the work, sharing ideas, information and images - can be worldwide in scope.
If you are interested in reading about social change, you can search their database of articles; you can also search and view their wide array of photos, though you do have to sign up to get in contact with the photographers about using the images. If you’ve got something to say, you can donate your time as an editor, or get involved in one of the ways outlined in the get involved page: fundraising, citizenship and education ambassadors, or news media and communications. Possibilities in the news media and communications area include conducting case by case research on multi-national corporation behavior and updating media data, and/or becoming a spokesperson on a specific country case. And if you have an idea for another type of contribution you can make, they’d like to hear it.
This site and the associated volunteer opportunities are great resources for those interested in social change; at GlobalAware you can read about it, write about it, research it, and familiarize yourself with what’s going on in different parts of the world. In their words: Joining the GA team means working towards pressing and important causes while delving deeper into an understanding of how action can amount to change.
