Change The Truth Fund Update
By Kate | Permalink | No Comments | July 20th, 2007 | TrackbackThe Change the Truth Fund, which connects donors from the US with St. Mary Keven’s orphanage in Uganda, has been busy.
Change The Truth founder Gloria, a photographer who became familiar with St. Mary Kevin’s orphanage while on a photography workshop in Africa, shares news about the charity on the official Change the Truth website as well as on her own blog.
Recent news includes that of the gift made by a 13-year-old donor which will allow five young people at St. Mary Kevin’s to attend secondary school. Collectively, donations to Change the Truth will cover the ongoing school fees for eight secondary students, who have been sponsored since winter.
Gloria mentioned that the orphanage manager from Uganda was in Kansas recently, and was shocked at the level of poverty that exists in the United States, something he really did not expect. She continues to work at making more connections between her community, including a local organization called Operation Breakthrough, which works with local residents fighting poverty, and St. Mary Kevin’s. In particular, she would like to bring two social workers with her on a future visit to Uganda. These social workers would personally carry out their work in play therapy with children at St Mary’s (many of whom have been traumatized by the war or the great loss they experienced), but more importantly, they would train resident teachers in it. In this way, it is possible for the work to continue long after they leave.
I think Gloria’s work is a great example of the difference one person can make after coming into contact - even for a short time initially - with a good cause.
